Gamification has gained increasing attention in education as an effective strategy to enhance students’ motivation and engagement, particularly in learning English as a foreign or second language. By integrating game-like elements such as points, badges, levels, leaderboards, and interactive challenges into instructional activities, gamification transforms traditional lessons into dynamic and stimulating learning experiences. This study examines the role of gamification in enhancing students’ motivation for learning English, focusing on both intrinsic factors, including enjoyment, interest, and self-confidence, and extrinsic factors, such as rewards and recognition. Drawing on recent empirical research and classroom interventions, the findings reveal that gamified learning environments significantly improve students’ participation, enthusiasm, and persistence in English learning tasks. Additionally, gamification contributes to better language learning outcomes, including vocabulary acquisition, speaking proficiency, and overall communicative competence. The study also identifies challenges, including potential overemphasis on rewards, distractions, and unequal access to digital resources, underscoring the importance of thoughtful design and implementation. Overall, the findings highlight that gamification serves as a valuable pedagogical tool capable of fostering motivation, engagement, and effective English language learning
