Abstract

The growing demand for innovative teaching strategies in English language learning has led educators to explore gamification as a means to enhance student motivation and engagement. Gamification, which integrates game-like elements such as points, badges, levels, challenges, and immediate feedback into educational activities, has shown potential to transform traditional language-learning environments into more interactive and enjoyable experiences. This study examines the effectiveness of gamification in boosting motivation among English learners, with a focus on both intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors. Through a review of recent empirical research and classroom-based interventions, the study highlights how gamified activities increase learner engagement, promote persistence, and improve language acquisition outcomes, including vocabulary retention, speaking proficiency, and overall communicative competence. The findings suggest that gamification not only fosters motivation but also enhances the overall quality of the learning experience. However, the study also identifies challenges, such as the risk of overemphasizing rewards and unequal learner responses, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful implementation. The results underscore the value of gamification as a strategic pedagogical tool that can create dynamic, motivating, and effective English learning environments
