Abstract

Gamification has emerged as a transformative approach in education, offering innovative methods to enhance learners’ willingness and motivation to study English. By incorporating game-based elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, levels, and interactive challenges into lessons, gamification creates an engaging and enjoyable learning environment. This study investigates the effect of gamification on students’ willingness to learn English, focusing on how these strategies influence both intrinsic motivation such as interest, enjoyment, and self-confidence and extrinsic motivation, including rewards and recognition. Drawing on empirical research and classroom interventions, the findings indicate that gamified learning significantly increases students’ participation, enthusiasm, and persistence in English learning tasks. Moreover, gamification has been found to positively impact language outcomes, including vocabulary retention, speaking proficiency, and overall communicative competence. The study also highlights potential challenges, such as overreliance on rewards and unequal access to digital tools, emphasizing the need for careful implementation. Overall, the results suggest that gamification is an effective pedagogical tool that enhances students’ willingness to learn English while making the learning process more interactive, motivating, and rewarding
