THE INTEGRATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS IN EFL ACADEMIC WRITING INSTRUCTION: BENEFITS, CHALLENGES, AND PEDAGOGICAL IMPLICATIONS

Abstract

The growing presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has generated significant interest in its potential to transform English as a Foreign Language (EFL) academic writing instruction. AI-powered applications, including automated writing evaluation systems, grammar and style checkers, machine translation tools, and generative AI platforms, are increasingly being integrated into language learning environments to support students’ writing development. This article explores the benefits, challenges, and pedagogical implications associated with the use of AI tools in EFL academic writing classrooms. Drawing on recent research and emerging educational practices, the study examines how AI technologies can enhance learners’ writing performance by providing immediate feedback, improving grammatical accuracy, expanding vocabulary use, and promoting greater learner autonomy
