Abstract

This article investigates the semantic characteristics of time-expressing words and phrases in English and Uzbek. It examines their functional roles within sentences, the nuances of temporal meaning, and cross-linguistic differences and similarities. The study applies a comparative linguistic approach to highlight how cultural and grammatical factors influence temporal expression in both languages. Findings demonstrate that while English often relies on syntactic structures and auxiliary verbs to convey temporal relations, Uzbek utilizes postpositions, temporal particles, and context-dependent expressions. The research contributes to the broader field of contrastive linguistics and enhances understanding of temporal semantics in cross-cultural communication
