Abstract

This article examines the interrelationship between language policy and toponymic systems in Uzbek and English-speaking regions from a comparative linguistic and sociocultural perspective. The study analyzes how governmental language reforms, national identity formation, colonial and post-colonial transformations, and globalization influence the naming and renaming of geographical objects. Particular attention is paid to the semantic, historical, and ideological functions of place names in Uzbekistan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The research applies comparative, descriptive, and discourse-analytical approaches to investigate how toponyms function as instruments of political authority, cultural memory, and linguistic standardization
