USING PICTURE BOOKS TO DEVELOP COMPREHENSION

Abstract

This study investigates how picture books, especially for young and beginning language learners, can be a useful aid for improving reading comprehension skills. By combining verbal and visual components, picture books allow students to create meaning via the interaction of text and images. In addition to boosting learners' enthusiasm and engagement, the study demonstrates how pictures aid in language acquisition, inference, prediction, and critical thinking. Teachers can accommodate a variety of learning styles, facilitate understanding, and create meaningful reading experiences by incorporating picture books into their reading lesson. According to the results, picture books can help students acquire higher-level comprehension abilities in addition to being appropriate for beginning readers when used in conjunction with the right teaching practices
