FEATURES ОF THE GRAMMAR TRANSLATIОN METHОD

Abstract

This article examines the main features of the Grammar Translation Method used in foreign language teaching. The study explores the historical background, fundamental principles, and instructional practices of the method. The Grammar Translation Method emphasizes deductive grammar instruction, translation activities, and extensive use of the learners’ mother tongue. The findings indicate that the method primarily develops reading and writing skills rather than communicative competence
