TRANSLATION STRATEGIES FOR CULTURE-SPECIFIC ITEMS IN ENGLISH–UZBEK LITERARY TEXTS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

Abstract

This article examines translation strategies used in rendering culture-specific items in English–Uzbek literary texts from a comparative perspective. Culture-specific items such as realia, idiomatic expressions, and culturally bound metaphors present challenges due to cultural differences between the two languages. The study employs a qualitative, descriptive-comparative analysis of selected English literary texts and their Uzbek translations. The findings show that translators primarily use functional adaptation, borrowing, and explicitation to balance cultural preservation with target-reader accessibility.
