FOOTPRINTS OF THE CLASSICAL WORKS IN MODERN TEXTS

Abstract

Classic novels have predominantly influenced contemporary writing by prompting reinterpretation of their ideological, aesthetic, and moral legacies. Classic works serve as an artistic foundation, a societal norm, and a repository of cultural memory for current texts. Any literal text is considered to have an intertextual footprint from former texts. This research aims to analyze the intertextual connection of the classic literature To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee with Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey. The analysis done by the researcher reveals that motif of telling the truth in To Kill a Mockingbird opposed to the motif of keeping silent Jasper Jones. This paper uses the intertextual analysis method to find mirroring motifs, symbols and metaphors from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird into the novel Jasper Jones
