INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO TEACHING ENGLISH IN UZBEKISTAN: INTEGRATING LANGUAGE SKILLS, ASSESSMENT, AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE EFL CLASSROOM

Abstract

The rapid transformation of English language education in Uzbekistan necessitates a comprehensive re-examination of teaching methodologies, assessment frameworks, and the integration of modern technologies in EFL classrooms. This article synthesises contemporary scholarship to explore how innovative pedagogical approaches including interactive methods, games, extracurricular activities, and digital tools can be leveraged to enhance the four core language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Special attention is paid to the role of criterion-based and competency-oriented assessment, the development of critical thinking, and the use of phraseological, terminological, and typological knowledge in constructing linguistically rich learning environments. Drawing on studies conducted within Uzbekistan and comparable EFL contexts, the article argues that a multi-dimensional, learner-centred pedagogy that acknowledges cultural specificity and aligns with international benchmarks such as IELTS offers the most effective pathway for advancing English proficiency among Uzbek students. The findings have direct implications for teacher training, curriculum design, and language policy in the region
