THE APPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW NORMS IN THE CASE OF THE CONFLICT BETWEEN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE

Abstract

This scientific article provides a comprehensive analysis of the application of international humanitarian law norms in the long-term conflict between Israel and Palestine, the complexities encountered, and the effectiveness. The study examines the historical context of the conflict and the theoretical foundations of international law, drawing on the Geneva Conventions, United Nations resolutions, International Court of Justice decisions, and contemporary scholarly literature. The article highlights practical challenges such as the difficulties in applying the principles of separation and proportionality in asymmetric urban warfare, obstacles to humanitarian assistance, and the obligations of the occupying power. It also discusses international accountability mechanisms, the role and limitations of the UN, and future prospects.
