INTRODUCTORY CONSTRUCTIONS INDICATING THE DEGREE OF TYPICALITY OF FACTS EXPRESSED IN DISCOURSE

Abstract

This article examines the key features of the scientific style and the role of introductory constructions in academic discourse. Particular attention is paid to their function in ensuring precision, logical coherence, and consistency of expression. The study analyzes introductory units belonging to different semantic groups, their ability to convey both affirmative and negative information, and to generate additional semantic nuances such as cause-and-effect relations, contrast, condition, and identification. Furthermore, the paper highlights the dependence of their usage on sentence position and the author’s individual style. The findings demonstrate that introductory constructions possess a broad semantic range, while their frequency of use is determined by stylistic factors
