Abstract

Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has become an important approach in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL), shifting the focus from traditional methods to real-life communication and meaningful interaction. This article examines how effective TBLT is in improving learners’ speaking skills, particularly in terms of fluency, accuracy, confidence, and overall communicative competence. Based on recent studies and classroom research conducted between 2020 and 2026, the findings show that task-based activities—such as role-plays, problem-solving tasks, and information-gap exercises—encourage students to actively use the language and help reduce anxiety while speaking. Although TBLT has many advantages in developing natural speaking abilities, it also presents certain challenges, including classroom management issues, differences in students’ proficiency levels, and the need for well-designed tasks. The study concludes that when TBLT is applied carefully and thoughtfully, it not only enhances students’ speaking performance but also creates a more engaging and learner-centered classroom environment. Overall, successful use of TBLT requires a balanced approach that combines meaningful tasks with strong teacher support and continuous professional development
